Iraq War Vet Uses Rear Naked Choke to Stop Robbery

Another Choke Story?!

For those who don't know, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was introduced to the U.S. Army in 1994 and has since been adopted as the foundation for the entire Moderm Army Combatives Program. Amongst other things, soldiers are taught several core jiu-jitsu techniques in basic training, and although these techniques are designed to build their "warrior ethos" and make them better soldiers, their combat skills are equally applicable back home as they are on the front lines.

On March 22, 2012 a man named, Brandon Slanger, attempted to rob a party store in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is when Zack Thome used his U.S. Army Combatives training to lock Slanger in a Rear Naked Choke and put him to sleep. Check out the video below.
